Warranty and Guarantee Policy

Goodyear Tyres (NZ) – Warranty and Guarantee Policy

Thank you for your purchase of our Goodyear tyres(s). Please ensure you carefully read and follow the care and maintenance instructions that came with your specific tyres to extend their life.

The Goodyear group is dedicated to producing, innovating, and servicing the best tyres in the world.

Terms and conditions

Our tyres come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the New Zealand Consumer Law. You are entitled to choose a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If a failure with the tyres does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done, you are entitled to a refund for the tyres. Your first step is to contact us and explain the problem and the outcome you want. The benefits provided to you by this guarantee are in addition to other rights and remedies available to you under the law. Goodyear offers a guarantee which is only for the benefit of the original purchaser of the tyres and is non-transferrable.

Parallel Imports Excluded

The guarantee does not apply if you purchase Goodyear manufactured tyres from unauthorised importers for numerous reasons including because we have not validated that they are appropriate for New Zealand conditions, that they are current stock, that they have been stored and transported appropriately or that they are suitable for your vehicle and align with the other tyres on your vehicle.

Dunlop

Goodyear sold its Dunlop trademarks and intangible assets necessary for the operation of the Dunlop brand in Australia and New Zealand to Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd (SRI) on 7 May 2025. As a result of this transaction, Goodyear had to terminate -its Dunlop tyre distribution agreement with National Tyre and Wheel Pty Ltd on 7 May 2025. If you purchased Goodyear or Dunlop tyres from a Goodyear Autocare store pre-7 May 2025, you may still have eligibility for a warranty claim in accordance with this policy. If you purchased a Dunlop tyre on or after 7 May 2025, you will need to contact the retailer who sold it to you or SRI.

A. Eligibility for a warranty claim

  1. To be eligible to make a warranty claim, you must have purchased a genuine Goodyear or Dunlop tyre through an authorised Goodyear or Dunlop Tyre dealer within New Zealand (in the case of Dunlop tyres and dealers pre-7 May 2025) and;
    a. the tyre is or became defective or not of an acceptable quality during the relevant warranty period or such other period as required by law, or
    b. the tyres do not comply with any express warranty provided by Goodyear regarding (a) their quality, state, condition, performance or characteristics, (b) what they can do and for how long or (c) the availability of servicing, parts or identical replacements.
  2. Authorised dealers are listed on our website as specified below. Our warranty does not apply to parallel imports, namely a purchase from a business selling Goodyear (or pre-7 May 2025 Dunlop) tyres brought into New Zealand without our specific permission.
  3. Goodyear reserves the right to inspect a claimed tyre(s), to assess eligibility.
  4. Any Goodyear tyres or Dunlop tyres (purchased pre-7 May 2025) submitted for a warranty claim must be accompanied by your original customer invoice, containing all the following information:
    a. your name, address, phone number and email;
    b. the purchase date and name of the authorised Goodyear or Dunlop dealer;
    c. your vehicle make, model and odometer reading at the time of purchase,
    (Proof of Purchase).

B. How do I make a claim for a warranty on my Goodyear or Dunlop tyre?

  1. New Cars For tyres that are fitted as original equipment, please contact the dealership where you purchased your car or if that is not reasonably practicable, take your vehicle to your local Goodyear Autocare dealer for inspection, adjudication, and processing of your claim. Store locations can be found here:
    a. Goodyear Autocare – Store locator: https://www.goodyear.co.nz/store-locator
  2. New Tyres on Non-new vehicle for tyres that were fitted to your vehicle at dealer, please take your vehicle back to that dealer for inspection, adjudication and processing of your claim.
  3. Each claim can only be examined by Goodyear, a Goodyear approved distributor or an authorised Goodyear Dealer (Authorised Claim Reviewer).
  4. To enable a thorough inspection by an Authorised Claim Reviewer, you must present the tyre/s being claimed with the rim on which the tyre was fitted if the tyre fault is visible only after inflating the tyre with air.
  5. This warranty applies to the purchase of any new tyre manufactured or supplied by Goodyear and excludes parallel imports. Eligible tyres must be used on the vehicle on which they were installed.
  6. The Authorised Claim Reviewer will assess if a breach of a warrantable condition has occurred. If they consider it has, the warranty claim will be submitted to Goodyear for assessment.

C.  Returning Goods

  1. Once you notify an Authorised Claim Reviewer that you are returning the tyres, the tyres become the Authorised Claim Reviewer’s property until such time as they are returned to you if this occurs.
  2. You must return the tyres with your vehicle to the Authorised Claim Reviewer, we have numerous locations throughout New Zealand to ensure that your cost of returning, removing or transporting is not significant.
  3. The Authorised Claim Reviewer will assist you in removing each tyre that is the subject of a claim.

D. What will happen when you submit a warranty claim?

  1. The Authorised Claim Reviewer will review the submitted warranty claim thoroughly and may request additional information or a physical inspection of the tyre.
  2. If your claim is valid, a warranty adjustment will be accepted and processed on a pro rata basis using the remaining tread as a percentage of the original new tyre tread depth as explained below.
  3. If a major failure is found in your tyre, you are entitled to choose a replacement or refund.
  4. If the tyre is found not to be defective or the condition was not the result of a manufacturing defect, your warranty claim will be rejected.
  5. You will be compensated for an approved claim if tyres comply with these terms and conditions.
  6. If an Authorised Claim Reviewer replaces your tyre, the defective or otherwise non-compliant tyre will become the property of Goodyear.

E. How is my tyre warranty calculated?

  1. For non-major failures, if your warranty claim is valid, the warranty adjustment percentage will be calculated on a pro rata basis using the remaining tread as a percentage of the original new tyre tread depth. The replacement tyre will be discounted on a pro-rata basis calculated in accordance with the following formula
Formula 1
  1. By way of example to illustrate the application of this formula, if the tyres original tread depth was 8mm and the tyre has worn by 2mm leaving 6mm of tread remaining, the Authorised Claim Retailer that first managed your claim will provide an equivalent replacement tyre at 75% off the current recommended retail price. If they tyre was a $200 tyre (RRP), a customer would receive a $150 discount on the replacement tyre:
    EXAMPLE:
Formula 2
  1. If the tyre is worn and has 1.6mm of tread or less remaining, then the tyre is deemed to have reached the end of its serviceable tread wear life and would no longer be eligible for warranty consideration.

F. How long does the warranty on my tyres last?

  1. A warranty commences from the date of your purchase of the goods until a fault or problem would reasonably be expected to appear. This timeframe varies depending on the type of goods, how a customer is likely to use the goods, the length of time the goods could reasonably be used, and the amount of use the goods could reasonably be expected to tolerate before the problem or fault became apparent.
  2. Unless advertised on specific products, Goodyear does not warrant tread-wear, nor provide a treadwear (mileage) guarantee.
  3. While tyre age is a factor when considering the condition of a tyre submitted for warranty adjustment consideration, there is no specific age limit.
  4. Your warranty does not you cover you for such things as irregular wear attributed to lack of maintenance or vehicle condition, damage due to accidents, vandalism or being driven on with loss of air pressure or incorrect wheel alignment or balancing.
  5. Goodyear guarantees that it will take reasonable steps to provide, through its Authorised Claim Retailers, spare parts and repair facilities (a place that can fix the consumer’s goods), for a reasonable time after purchase. It would be reasonable to expect that tyres for a new car will be available for many years after its purchase. A manufacturer or importer does not have to meet the guarantee on repairs and spare parts if they advised the consumer in writing, at or before the time of purchase, that repair facilities and spare parts would not be available at all or after a specified time.

G. What is not covered under Goodyear’s Warranty Policy?
