Race recap: Jimmie Johnson led 271 of 400 laps to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover on Sunday. Johnson swept the two races at the Delaware-based track this season, leading a combined 569 of 800 laps.
Johnson began the race from the pole position and jumped out to lead the first 27 laps of the race. Three other drivers combined to lead 129 of the next 148 circuits before Johnson really flexed his muscles. All the three-time defending Cup champion did from there was pace the field for the final 225 laps to cruise to the victory.
Dover was the second race in NASCAR's 10-race Sprint Cup playoffs. Johnson closed to within 10 points of championship leader Mark Martin, who finished this week's race in the runner-up spot. Juan Pablo Montoya (-65) and Kurt Busch (-75) are also within range.
Race No. 3 in the Chase for the Championship will be held at Kansas Speedway next Sunday.
Companion event: It was a tale of two races for NASCAR Nationwide Series teams at Dover on Saturday. Kyle Busch led 109 of the first 117 laps, but Clint Bowyer came on to lead the final 83 to win the event. Busch extended his championship lead to 211 points over Carl Edwards
